Finding Time To Reflect This Holiday Season…
There are many reasons I love the holiday season from Thanksgiving through the New Year…yet, on the other hand, there are many reasons I’m ready to speed up the next few weeks and be done with it already. I know, I know, ba hum bug, right? Well…only sort of…not really! But, in all seriousness though, we know the “real” reason for the season and we make our best effort to keep our life simple this time of year so we can focus on what matters; yet, it seems as hard as we try, we eventually get sucked into the whirlwind of busyness.
The thing is, most these things in the whirlwind are wonderful things to be involved in and have a giving and loving spirit about them; whether it be buying presents for loved ones, preparing Christmas cards, wrapping presents, attending work parties, Christmas plays, traveling to family gatherings, serving or volunteering in the community, end of year performance review at work, etc. The problem is that with all these things going on, we tend to book our calendars to the max with an overflow of activities that it can be very challenging to find time for the peaceful and quiet moments to truly reflect.
This is one of the main activities I do enjoy about this time of year, reflecting. Usually somewhere amidst the busyness I come back around to this place where I realized I need to be more intentional about forcing myself to stop and begin to look back on where we have been as a family this year and what changes we should and would like to be making in the new year. Though we have done it many times, we’re always changing and because of this we need to go back to the drawing board more often.
